Frequently Asked Questions

Therapists are human beings - and finding a good “match” for you is important to getting the most out of therapy. Therapy can be hard work, so finding a therapist who makes you comfortable and whom you trust is key to creating a strong, safe foundation for us to do that work. We deeply believe a good therapeutic alliance is necessary for optimal growth, and so we encourage our new clients to tell us when something is not working, and if they prefer a different approach. But if we find that we are not a good fit, we will try to help you find a better match.
If you would like more information about our approach:
-
Do you take insurance?
Yes, Belonging is In-Network with most major providers, including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, CareFirst, Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, Optima/Sentara. Please reach out if you have any questions about whether we take your insurance.
Our practice also submits for Out of Network claims on your behalf, and accepts direct pay clients.
-
It depends on your insurance carrier. If you would like to get reimbursed the first step is to call your insurance using the number on the back of our insurance card and ask them “do I have out-of-network benefits?”
If they say yes, you will need to follow-up and ask them if you have a deductible or out-of-pocket minimum (which means how much you have to spend before out-of-network benefits kick-in).
You can also look at the Summary of Benefits (also known as the summary plan description), which includes:
What your deductible is
What your out-of-pocket limit is
What your co-pays and coinsurance amounts are for different health services
Whether you have any out-of-network benefits and if so, how costs for out-of-network providers compare to costs for in-network providers.
-
If you are In-Network through your insurance, your company will determine the reimbursement rate.
If you are Out of Network or choose to do direct pay, the rates are as follows:
Intake Session (60 minutes): $200
Individual Therapy (55 minutes): $160
Couples Therapy (55 minutes): $180
If needed, our providers do offer a limited number of sliding scale spots, for a set number of sessions.
-
Yes, I ask for 48-hours notice if you need to cancel a session. This allows me enough time to offer the spot to another client who may need it.
My fee for a missed session or late cancellation is the full session rate if we cannot find another time to meet in the same week.
Please keep in mind that my availability is limited, and I may not be able to put you in a new time slot in the same week.
-
During the first session, we discuss what brings you to therapy, whether you have gone to therapy before and what that was like for you, and generally try to get a broad-scope picture of your life in order to identify goals and plan our course.
For individual therapy, we usually take the first 2 or 3 sessions to do a full intake assessment so we can create a comprehensive history that integrates psychological, environmental, and circumstantial factors, and then formulate a treatment plan together.
